A Memory Quilt is a quilt is designed to celebrate the life of a loved one, a family history or an important event. Often the fabric used is cut from clothes or t-shirts to create the blocks or sashing. Signatures, messages and pictures are easily added to make each quilt unique to the owner or recipient. Signature Quilts and T-Shirt quilts are also types of Memory Quilts.

Benefits of a Memory Quilt

  • A Memory Quilt made of the clothes of a lost loved one can give comfort to the grieving.

  • A Memory Quilt made of baby clothes is a fun way to remember all those cute baby outfits.

  • A Memory Quilt made of blocks from friends is a great gift for a friend who is moving away.

  • Using t-shirts, uniforms or pictures are a great way to capture the memories of trips, teams and special times.

Memory Quilts may contain MORE than just t-shirts!

Memory Quilts can and should be made up of more than just t-shirts!  So many of my quilts contain precious garments other than t-shirts! Select items that are most memorable for you or your loved one. Below is a list of items that work really well in these quilts:

  • mesh jerseys

  • high performance shirts like Under Armour

  • long sleeve and short sleeve knit shirts,

  • golf shirts

  • long sleeve, cotton button down shirts-Hawaiian shirts work well

  • sweat shirts

  • flannel or fleece pants

  • pajamas

  • all baby clothing

  • ties and handkerchiefs

  • cotton bed sheets can also be used

  • high school varsity letters, jacket or sweater

  • suspenders or aprons

  • boy scout badges

  • girl scout badges

  • baseball patches

  • canvas bags with nice logos on them

  • Baptismal outfits

  • any homemade cloth item-even felt

  • graduation gowns

Items that don't work well:

  • wool blankets

  •  hats of any kind

  • anything that doesn't lay flat like socks

  • super thick items

  • button down baseball jerseys

  • acetate ribbons

  • garments with holes them. Holey garments makes a holey quilt!

My quilts are priced to reflect everything that goes into making a premier family heirloom.  My quilts use only the highest quality materials.  There are three basic materials that go into all T-shirt quilts. There is a range of quality for  each type of material used.  A low priced quilt typically means lower materials were used. My quilts contain the highest quality material,  which means a higher priced quilt:

Quality Fabric

  • High quality fabric is used for the entire backing and binding of the quilts. Fabric comes in many different qualities.

  • Think of bed sheet thread counts; the lower the thread count, the cheaper the fabric.

  • Fabrics can also be made from 100% polyester, 100% cotton and any combination of the two.

  • I only use the best quality fabrics!

Quality  Batting

  • Batting is the material that is used in the middle of a quilt.  Think of an oreo cookie: the top quilt and backing are the crunchy cookie and the batting is the sweet cream.

  • I use Warm and Natural batting-the best batting on the market.

Quality Thread

  •  I only use Gutermann thread to piece and bind the quilt. This thread is the best and is expensive.

  • Many comment on how great this special thread looks on their quilt.

Size

My quilt dimensions are larger than most quilts out there!

  • The lap quilts are larger than most of my competitors-big enough to snuggle on the couch with!

  •  The twin quilt is large enough to fit on an extra large twin bed.

  • The queen size (90" by 108") is large enough to fit on a King size bed

  • The King size ( 105" by 105") is just plain massive!

Workmanship

  • The higher the skill the more it costs.  The workmanship that goes into each and every one of my quilts is second to none.

  • Each quilt is cut and pieced together using expert sewing techniques and machines.
